Data Privacy and Confidentiality

Your study data will be handled as confidentially as possible. To help us protect your privacy, the research team has obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

The CareActive system will only collect the following information when you are home: (a) account information (created by you; not your real name), (b) your roles in caregiving (i.e., data from the caregiver or care recipient), (c) your proximities to the three CareActive stations, and (d) battery levels of your watches. No data will be collected when you are away from home. 

The CareActive system is incapable of collecting audio or video data. 

All data will be identified and encrypted before transition and storage. Only the research team (i.e., University of California, Berkeley, People Power Company) has access to your data. 

When the research is completed, data collected in this study may be retained for use in future projects by the research team. This information will be retained indefinitely after the study is over. Data collected during this research could also be distributed to other investigators for future research studies without additional informed consent from the subject or the legally authorized representative. 

If results of this study are published or presented, individual names and other personally identifiable information will not be used.
